India and Pakistan are on their way to joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, according to a senior Chinese diplomat1 who confirmed that moves to admit the countries will begin soon.
据中国一位外交官证实，印度和巴基斯坦将启动加入上合组织程序。
上合组织即上海合作组织（Shanghai Cooperation Organization，SCO），成立于2001年，致力于维护区域稳定（maintain regional stability）和打击恐怖主义（combat terrorism）。现在有6个成员国（ member states）。
印度、巴基斯坦与伊朗、阿富汗和蒙古国是上合组织的察看员国（observer states）。印度和巴基斯坦作为有核国家（nuclear power）加入到这一区域组织，其用途不容小视。不只将提升上合组织的国际影响力（increase the SCO's global influence），另外能够帮助降低印巴两国间的摩擦（reduce contradictions between India and Pakistan）。
