Jinan, China News Agency, February 24th Question: Chinese international students promote traditional Chinese culture in various ways

Author Wang Caiyi

The melodious erhu music finished, and applause echoed in the crowd... Recently, Zheng Xiaohui, a student studying abroad in Weifang, Shandong, wore Hanfu multiple times on the streets of Milan, Italy, playing classic Chinese Spring festival music such as "New Year Overture" and "Joyful" with a erhu, sharing the joy of the new year with passersby.

"During roadshows, foreigners often ask 'what instrument is this', and I always tell them' this is the traditional Chinese instrument erhu '. In Zheng Xiaohui's view, music, as a global language, has cross-cultural communication functions.". The strings of the erhu not only alleviate the homesickness of overseas travelers, but also enhance the understanding and recognition of excellent traditional Chinese culture among foreign friends.

Zheng Xiaohui told reporters that she is also opening a personal account on short video platforms, allowing more and more overseas friends to come into contact with and learn about traditional Chinese ethnic music. "The Internet is like the seed of dandelion, spreading the excellent traditional culture of China to a further place."

Like Zheng Xiaohui, many Chinese international students are spreading traditional culture in different ways in foreign countries. They take to the streets to perform dance, martial arts, and folk music, sharing Chinese cuisine and popularizing knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine with foreign friends, becoming "spokespersons" and promoting traditional culture in various ways.

Beef and mutton rolls, baby cabbage, bean curd... In an international student's apartment at the university of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, Zhang Miaoxin, a "post-00s" Tianjin girl, invited her roommates from South Korea and Taiwan, China, China, to prepare all kinds of ingredients together and experience the Chinese flavor "on the tip of the tongue" in a steaming hot pot.

During the Spring Festival, Zhang Miaoxin also made fried Spring rolls, sweet and sour ribs, pot chicken and other delicacies for foreign friends. "Many foreigners are surprised by the variety of Chinese cuisine, and after tasting it, they are even more impressed. I think using food to spread Chinese culture to the outside world is a very feasible way, and more and more foreigners are learning about Chinese culture through this subtle way."

At the same time, Chinese international students are also enthusiastic about inviting foreign friends to participate in local traditional cultural activities and immerse themselves in the charm of Chinese culture.

Zhou Chunlan, from Zibo, Shandong, is a doctoral student at Beijing normal University. During her study abroad in Ireland, she was active in various activities promoting Chinese culture. During the Spring Festival, I served as the host of the All Love Student Union Spring Festival Gala, inviting Polish roommates to watch the program on site. I also participated in the Chinese New Year celebration event supported by the Dublin City government and volunteered to make dumplings. I also invited friends from Uganda, Iran, Malaysia and other countries to attend English lectures on traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese characters held by the Confucius Institute at the University of Dublin, and taste Chinese food. I hope foreign friends can experience the unique value of our national culture up close and deeply

In Zhou Chunlan's view, official institutions such as embassies are an important force in promoting the "going global" of traditional culture. At the same time, more and more non-governmental organizations established by overseas Chinese are consciously and actively spreading Chinese culture. Both of these forces open important windows for foreigners to understand China. "We hope that our excellent traditional culture not only attracts foreigners' attention in terms of form and atmosphere, but also stimulates their stronger interest in learning in terms of ideological essence. One world, no questions about the West and East; the world is united, beautiful and shared."

"Cultural dis百度竞价推广ination is a process from the outside to the inside. only by understanding the Chinese people's' clothing, food, housing, and transportation 'can overseas friends have a deeper understanding of China's academic and ideological aspects. Whether it is daily communication or various cultural activities, they should combine form and content to make foreign friends enjoy and see." Yang Chaoming, a specially appointed professor at the Institute of Advanced Confucianism at Shandong University, said in an interview with reporters.

Yang Chaoming believes that more and more young Chinese people are willing to showcase Chinese culture to the world. "In the future, we will continue to promote traditional culture, while also enhancing young people's understanding of traditional culture, removing the rough and extracting the essence, and preserving the true."
